Rediscovery: Bregenz Festival shows Franco Faccio’s Hamlet

The opera Amleto (Hamlet) by composer Franco Faccio (1840-1891) and librettist Arrigo Boito was premiered in Genoa in 1865 and performed at La Scala in 1871. After that no further performances took place until the conductor Anthony Barrese, fascinated by Faccio, decided to recover the full score. After consulting the original manuscripts at the Ricordi archive, he made a new edition of the opera. Hamlet was revived in the USA at Opera Southwest in 2014. Now the Bregenz Festival will stage the European premiere in July 2016.
