Olga Neuwirth has become honorary member of the Wiener Konzerthaus society

Olga Neuwirth is the newest honorary member of the Wiener Konzerthaus society (Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft). The close collaboration between the Austrian composer and the Wiener Konzerthaus started in 1990, when a work by the then 21-year-old Olga Neuwirth was performed at the Viennese concert hall for the first time. Since then, the Wiener Konzerthaus has presented her music on a regular basis, including 10 world premieres and 10 national premieres. In total, Wiener Konzerthaus has performed her music 95 times. Olga Neuwirth joins an illustrious list of musicians, including Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Claudio Abbado, Georg Friedrich Haas and many others.

“Nominating Olga Neuwirth as an honorary member shows the great respect of the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft for the creative output of one of the most fascinating Austrian musicians”, says General Manager Matthias Naske. “High sensibility, an insatiable longing for freedom and sophistication in sound, a great openness and artistic sovereignty define Olga Neuwirth as a composer. She has a great artistic personality as well as a sharp and critical mind.”
