Peter Oswald, the founder of the Label KAIROS and former artistic director of the festival Steirischer Herbst, died unexpected on August 3rd, 2017.

As a journalist, artistic director of the festival musikprotokoll, music advisor of Wiener Festwochen and General Manager of the Ensemble Klangforum Wien, Peter Oswald played an important role in the contemporary music scene in Europe.

With great passion Peter Oswald supported composers of all generations. Olga Neuwirth, Bernhard Lang, Georg Friedrich Haas, Enno Poppe, Dai Fujikura, Luca Francesconi, Georges Aperghis, Salvatore Sciarrino, Olivier Messiaen, Luigi Nono, Gerard Grisey, Philippe Manoury, Héctor Parra and many others trustfully laid their works in the hands of KAIROS, the label that he founded together with his wife Barbara Fränzen in 1999. The releases of his label set new standards regarding diligence and quality. 

We mourn the enthusing and enthusiastic advocate Peter Oswald. All our whole-hearted sympathy goes to his wife, his family and all his colleagues.
