The closing concert of the Donaueschinger Musiktage sees the premiere of works from Younghi Pagh-Paan and Francesca Verunelli, presented by the SWR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Ingo Metzmacher.

Under direction from Pierre Bleuse, the Ensemble intercontemporain presented the world premiere of Liza Lim’s Tailor of Time at Festival Musica, Strasbourg. In November, Lucerne Festival Forward will premiere Multispecies Knots of Ethical Time, another work in which Liza Lim explores the theme of time.

Two new projects by composer Francesca Verunelli are slated for upcoming world premieres. Tune and Retune II and Songs and Voices will be unveiled during the 2023-2024 concert season.

Cassandra, the first opera by Belgian composer Bernard Foccroulle commissioned by La Monnaie, combines the mythological figure of Cassandra with the contemporary character Sandra, a young activist fighting to protect the environment.

Philip Venables’ new opera saw its premiere at the Manchester International Festival 2023. Following national premieres at the Bregenz Festival and Festival d’Aix en Provence we can look forward to further performances at London’s Southbank Centre, NYU Skirball, and the Holland Festival.

In celebration of his 70th birthday, the Mahler Academy Orchestra realized a very special work by Georg Friedrich Haas: In 11.000 Saiten, 50 pianos that have been microtonally tuned against one another play together with a chamber orchestra.
