Mauro LanzaOn 16th June in Rome (Teatro Studio, 8.30 p.m.), in the frame of the festival “Suona francese” and Dissonanze, The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Italy, will give the Italian premiere of Descrizione del Diluvio, a multimedia performance for video projections, voices, percussions and electronics, the result of an artistic collaboration between the composer, Mauro Lanza and the video artist, Paolo Pachini. The production of the show will feature the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart and Les percussions de Strasbourg.

The project was inspired by a text by Leonardo da Vinci, Il Diluvio, (The Flood), related in part to the drawings of the Windsor Codex. The expressive power of the images and the radical nature of Leonardo’s use of forms has inspired the authors to use this material as a basis for generating a modern-day “deluge” of sounds and images. To achieve the desired sensory result a special space is envisaged in which the audience will perceive sounds and images from all sides. The score “will attempt to portray in the language of music both the scientific analysis and real-life depiction of the principles of natural disasters. The gradual transformations of the musical material, with the fluidity of natural phenomena, alternate with moments of stasis, as if both narrating and punctuating a kind of secular Last Judgment which envisages neither damned nor saved but only engulfed souls.”
