On the occasion of the meeting of CISAC’s International Council of Authors of Music  (CIAM), currently taking place in Oslo, SIAE (The Italian Society of Publishers and Authors) has been invited to participate in the select workgroup that over the next two years will examine, from the perspective of music authors, the problems relating to the challenges posed to their rights by the development of modern digital technologies. SIAE will be represented in the workgroup by Mr Lorenzo Ferrero, a member of  the society’s board of directors.

Amongst the principle matters being examined in Oslo are the implications of the law that was passed recently in France and the possible legislative alternatives to be adopted so as to reduce the impact of the unauthorised sharing of digital files containing protected works and the presentation on the part of the American lawyer, Bennett Lincoff, of an original proposal that should engage all rights-holders in an innovative licensing model destined for the on-line environment.
