Between 2^nd  and 4^th October, 2008 at the Teatro Studio in Milan the world premiere will take place of Ipnos with music by Riccardo Nova and choreography by Davide Bombana. It will be performed by the new group BATS (Balletto Accademia Teatro della Scala). The ballet depicts the resonances and sensations aroused by one’s sense of smell, underlining its most sensual characteristics. The score, with live music and electronics, includes a part for the mrdangam (to be played by B.C. Manjunath) and for solo cello (Francesco Dillon). The harmonies have an openness and elemental quality which, as Nova underlines, “allows the dancers space for a slow and sensual expressiveness in emphatic contrast to the inharmonic complexity of sound which by now is an integral part of contemporary musical expression”.
