Enno Poppe meets Kraftwerk

Composer-conductor Enno Poppe meets one of the pioneers of electronic music, Kraftwerk co-founder Eberhard Kranemann, in the Red Salon of Berlin’s Volksbühne. Not only did their conversation in initiative neue musik’s series Perspektivenwechsel (Change of Perspective) touch on Poppe’s synthesizer piece Rundfunk, recently performed by ensemble mosaik. The two musicians also exchanged views on the phenomenon of temporality within electronic music. It profits from ever new achievements in technology while also being subjected to the short lives of this very technology, resulting in some of its works being all too quickly forgotten. It's often the case that older works cannot be performed because the required instruments are no longer built, they no longer work or there's simply a lack of knowledge about how they function. For this reason, among others, both concluded: “Rock music is a defining culture. What we do is underground.”

Here are our top 10 moments from the discussion.
