Panni: two World Premieres and a new recording

After he turned 80 last January, the celebrations in honor of Marcello Panni have carried on throughout the year, despite all the problems related to venue availability. Following the success of the latest take on Hanjo, which was performed in concert by the FontanaMIX Ensemble last October in Bologna (a full presentation of the work is available online in Italian, by the music critic Sandro Cappelletto), coming December we can look forward to three concerts streamed live from the 57th edition of the Nuova Consonanza Festival, featuring past works and two world premieres.

The first concert, entitled Il filo di Arianna [Ariadne’s Thread], was broadcast on December 2. Performed were Tre Haiku (1988-89) for soprano and four instruments, with lyrics by Bashō and Buson, along with the world premiere of Commiato (2020) for vocals and four instruments, based on a pair of quatrains by Omar Khayyam. Other pieces include works by Francesco Pennisi, a tradition here at Casa Ricordi, as we mark his passing twenty years ago. The full concert is available on YouTube:

Upcoming appointments: December 15, a performance of Melodrama (1976 – rev. 2015/2019) for vocals and piano; December 19, the world premiere of Quattro canti popolari ciociari. Concerts will be available on Nuova Consonanza YouTube channel.

Furthermore, a new recording for EMA Vinci Records will be soon released and it will include Nocturne/Rituel for bassoon and 14 instruments.
