New signing: Giorgio Netti

New signing: Giorgio Netti

Casa Ricordi is pleased to announce the signing of composer Giorgio Netti. The collaboration kicks off with the acquisition and publication of his entire catalogue.

Netti’s poetics reflect his study with fellow composers Brian Ferneyhough, Gérard Grisey, Carold Nunes, Wolfgang Rihm and Giannis Xenakis. His work is characterized by the convergence of his own intuition and in-depth research into the technical and tonal potential of musical instruments. Netti is very much involved in Germany’s contemporary music scene, where he has received commissions from major institutions such as the Philharmonie Essen’s NOW! Festival, Donaueschinger Musiktage, ECLAT Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart, Musica Viva München, and Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik. In Italy Netti has worked with Milano Musica and the Venice Biennale. His commissions have been funded by the Bern Foundation and the Siemens Music Foundation.

A Note Regarding Esthetics

A sound, an instrument, a group of musicians playing together – what do they all mean? What is their relationship with the emotion that issues forth from those specific forms? All my pieces grow out of and through a series of questions. They are a system of filters progressively oriented toward a certain direction, as well the interpretation of the sedimentation that remains within. A single word that echoes the poetics involved? Resonance. In each single sound, down to the various segments, phrases, sections and parts of pieces and cycles, I’ve always sought to let the whole heartfelt, internal continuum just flow, as elements combine and transform – in and of themselves and for listeners. It’s the whole vibration mystery that undermines everything – a drawn-out presence, in which instruments, sound and people meld to elude day-to-day confines. What remains is a bit of music to come back to. Labyrinths of listening – portions of mystery, circumscribed and shared then, there and always.
