New signing: Andrea Portera

New signing: Andrea Portera

Casa Ricordi is delighted to announce its new collaboration with Italian composer Andrea Portera.

Portera's multi-awarded work explores the universe of sound from an anthropological perspective, particularly the connections that music creates between emotion and the unconscious: a unique production, where the creative process is expressed through an “intuitive” identity rather than a “stylistic” one. He is Head of Research & Development at PERLART, the section of PER Lab (Laboratory of Psychology, Emotions & Research – a spin-off of the University of Florence in partnership with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence) that deals with emotional intelligence, art, and creativity. Portera is a promoter of the Emotional Intelligence Renaissance (EIR) Cultural Manifesto.

His works have been performed by international orchestras, including Tokyo Philharmonic, Rai Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Estonian National Orchestra, Greek National Orchestra, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, SPCO Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota. He has well established partnerships in Scandinavia and the United States.

This new collaboration with Ricordi begins with the publication of his latest symphonic work, Antrum, commissioned by Jyväskylä Sinfonia (Finland), and with his new opera, commissioned for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Press quotes

There is something that is so well blending, the contemporary music expression with a beautiful (don't get it wrong!) simplicity in the melodic writing. Andrea Portera's work creates three-dimensionality in the music, with being very elaborated with plenty of these cells and complicated things and then coming to something that is familiar to me. This is an interesting composer. This is a composer doing unusual music for me.
Magnus Lindberg

Through continuous inner exploration, enriched by multiple cultural references and mastery of compositional techniques, Andrea Portera's entire oeuvre speaks the language of intelligence and hope. The humanity of music-making remains his expressive horizon, toward which he strives uncompromisingly, allowing his generous individuality to emerge.
Sandro Cappelletto

Rich in timbre, complex yet comprehensible even in its dense counterpoint. It is one of those things that immediately makes a good impression, despite the transcendental level of the intertwining melodies. [...] Truly a beautiful revelation.
