Neuwirth: composer focus at Konserthuset Stockholm
“Austrian Phenomenon Olga Neuwirth” (SD) featured at Stockholm’s Konserthuset
The Austrian composer was the focus of a festival (delayed by the pandemic) at Stockholm’s Konserthuset. Heard there – along with a world premiere – were large orchestral works such as
Masaot/Clocks without Hands,
Trurliade – Zone Zero and
Keyframes for a Hippogriff, as well as chamber music including
Quasare/Pulsare II and her string quartet
Akroate Hadal. In all, 13 works were performed by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Stockholm Boys’ Choir under Baldur Brönniman, the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra under Stefan Asbury, Quatuor Diotima and such outstanding soloists as Robyn Schulkowsky, Nicolas Hodges, Andrew Watts and Joakim Agnas.
“New music can teach us to be tolerant because it requires us to listen in a different way”
—Olga Neuwirth, who since 2021 has also been a professor of composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
