On September 20, 2014, Heiner Goebbels Surrogate Cities Ruhr was premiered at Ruhtriennale in Duisburg. Choreographer Mathilde Monnier worked with various communities of the Ruhr area; the production features school children, teenagers from Hip Hop dance groups, adult members of martial arts groups and senior citizens from ballroom dance groups.
