Dalbavie: New Opera at Salzburger Festspiele

The Salzburger Festspiele featured the world premiere of Marc-André Dalbavie’s second opera Charlotte Salomon in a production by stage director Luc Bondy. The opera deals with the painter and poet Charlotte Salomon and her posthumous autobiographical work Life? or Theatre?, composed during her flight from the Nazis and her arrest until her 1943 death in Auschwitz, pregnant and 26 years old.

Marc-André Dalbavie was celebrated by audience and critics alike: “The encounter with Marc-André Dalbavie has given the Salzburg Festival a unique, interesting and wonderful new color. The audience celebrated him warmly for a long time” (FAZ).
