Vacchi: Violin Concerto in Bari

Vacchi: Violin Concerto in Bari

On November 30 in Bari, the Teatro Petruzzelli Orchestra presents the world premiere of Fabio Vacchi’s Concerto per violino e orchestra, featuring soloist Francesco D’Orazio. John Axelrod conducts.

This is not Fabio Vacchi’s first work for violin. He has composed important pieces for violin and string orchestras, including pieces for soloist and concertante violin. In her introduction, which appears in the Teatro Petruzzelli program, Marilena Laterza writes:
“This evening we have the privilege of attending the world premiere of Concerto per violino e orchestra, a piece that belongs to a consolidated collection of Vacchi material. Yet the piece stands out on its own. If his previous works for violin – as well as most of the works Vacchi has composed – were often linked to non-musical imagery [...], here we have a work created ex nihilo, an example of ‘absolute’ music that exists in and of itself: an abstract soundscape, never descriptive, void of references to objective reality other than those that are strictly of a musical nature [...].
Concerto per violino e orchestra is a score that is self-sufficient, extremely articulated and at the same time cohesive thanks to the use of writing techniques that Vacchi has developed over the years: complex techniques, which result in anything but hostile to listeners [...].

Fabio Vacchi’s Concerto per violino e orchestra was commissioned by Teatro Petruzzelli.
