To mark the 150 years since the death of Gioachino Rossini, the
Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Italy (the composer’s hometown), coming this August 11-23, will be featuring performances of two operas whose histories hark back to 1818, two centuries ago:
Adina and
Ricciardo e Zoraide. Rossini wrote the music for the one-act farsa
Adina in the summer of 1818 while in Bologna;
Ricciardo e Zoraide, a 2-act drama, premiered at Teatro San Carlo in Naples on December 3 that same year.
