On 4 August 2018, Olga Neuwirth celebrates her 50th birthday, and the international musical world is honouring this occasion with numerous highlights from her oeuvre during the coming concert season. The tribute begins the day after her birthday at the BBC Proms, when Claire Chase presents the UK premiere of the flute concerto Aello – ballet mécanomorphe with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Five further performances follow with that orchestra, as well as with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Resonanz, Ensemble intercontemporain and the Sejong Soloists. No less impressive is the line-up of artists for portrait concerts at the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, featuring world premieres of the revised version of her “musicstallation-theater” The Outcast and Neuwirth’s specially commissioned live score for the newly restored version of the silent film Die Stadt ohne Juden (The City without Jews). Her highly acclaimed orchestral work Masaot/Clocks without Hands will be performed on the US West Coast for the first time in October, with Daniel Harding conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The piece will also be heard next year in Berlin at the MaerzMusik festival, played by the Konzerthausorchester under Peter Rundel.
