Olga Neuwirth featured in the USA

The United States can’t seem to get enough of Olga Neuwirth: just recently in February, her orchestral work Masaot/Clock Without Hands was performed in Miami, Florida with Matthias Pintscher conducting the New World Symphony. In New York, Claire Chase premieres Neuwirth’s Magic Flu-idity on March 1 at The Kitchen, marking one more step for “Density 2036", Chase’s 23-year long project dedicated to Edgar Varèse. Magic Flu-idity is the solo flute version of Neuwirth’s Aello - ballet mécanomorphe, a piece which Claire Chase has performed many times before – read her interview from 2018 here. The Seattle Symphony has furthermore just announced that Aello will have its U.S. national premiere later in October, with Chase as the soloist and Thomas Dausgaard conducting the Seattle Symphony.

Though it is certainly not the first time that the U.S. music scene has welcomed Neuwirth’s works, the Austrian composer has an especially exciting set of new American projects ahead of her. In particular, she will be working with the New York Philharmonic for their 2019-20 season on two different series. As a part of “Project 19,” she will be one of 19 female composers chosen to celebrate the centennial of women's right to vote, with a commission of a new work conducted by John Adams. Neuwirth’s work for “Project 19“ will be premiered in the framework of the Philharmonic’s hotspots festival – a geographical exploration of musical vibrance in several international cities – during which Neuwirth will also curate an evening of music dedicated to Berlin.

Performances

Neuwirth is not only working on projects in the U.S., however. Performances of her works can be found all around the world, including portrait concerts in Paris, Berlin, and Hamburg, with national premieres of her film music Die Stadt ohne Juden, her musicstallation theater The Outcast and Aello - ballet mécanomorphe.
