Filidei: I giardini di Vilnius WP & 2023 projects
A busy season lies in store for Francesco Filidei. The Italian composer is taking Europe by storm, starting from Paris.
Symphonic works
Filidei’s latest concerto for cello and orchestra, I giardini di Vilnius, premiered at Radio France’s Festival Présences on February 12, with a performance by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and soloist Sonia Wieder-Atherton. The piece is co-commissioned by Teatro Carlo Felice, Klangspuren Tirol New Music Festival and GAIDA Festival. Performances are scheduled for Italy, Austria and Lithuania throughout the 2023-2024 concert season.
In Italy, the performance of I giardini di Vilnius is part of Filidei’s artistic collaboration with Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice, which runs through 2025. Teatro Carlo Felice will also be hosting the Italian premiere of Filidei’s upcoming symphonic work, for soprano and orchestra, which makes its world premiere at the Berliner Philharmonie in September 2023. Moreover, a pair of musical portraits dedicated to Francesco Filidei, slated for February 5 in Florence and March 19 in Pisa, the composer’s hometown.
On stage
Filidei’s L’Inondation returns to the stage, February 27 – March 5, at Opéra Comique in Paris. It was originally commissioned by Opéra Comique in 2019, libretto by Joel Pommerat. Co-produced by Angers Nantes Opéra, Opéra de Rennes, Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, and Opéra de Limoges, L’Inondation is slated to premiere in Luxemburg in May 2023.
