Verunelli: Composer Portrait in Witten
As this year's portrait composer, the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik will present Francesca Verunelli, a composer whose intensive relationship to chamber music comes to the fore in a talk concert with two string quartets. The centerpiece of the portrait is the German premiere of
Songs and Voices, in which she combines singing voices and instruments into a seething "Silence of the Sirens" fused together. In the closing concert on May 5, Vanessa Porter and the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln present the world premiere of her new symphonic work
From Scratch. The programme also features the world premiere of Dai Fujikura's
Trumpet Concerto with soloist Marco Blaauw, who – one day earlier – performs Liza Lim's
Shallow Grave.
