The Biennale Musica 2024 in Venice is dedicated to the concept of absolute music, highlighting its contemporary relevance with new commissions. Throughout sixteen days of concerts and theoretical events, the Festival will bring out «the meaning of music as an autonomous language and the ontological status of sound, showcasing the state of the art of this fascinating, alchemical discipline, entering the workshops of the most rigorous and inventive composers and performers who create scores, programmes, codes and performances without any extra-musical or visual references», as Artistic Director Lucia Ronchetti stated.
Twelve composers from the Universal Music Publishing Classics & Screen international rosters and catalogues will be featured, including world and local premieres:
Iannis Xenakis (Salabert),
Gérard Grisey (Casa Ricordi),
Justė Janulytė (Salabert),
David Lang (Ricordi New York),
Alberto Posadas (Durand),
Marco Momi (Casa Ricordi),
Luca Francesconi (Casa Ricordi),
Georg Friedrich Haas (Ricordi Berlin),
Samir Odeh-Tamimi (Ricordi Berlin),
Lisa Streich (Ricordi Berlin),
Zeno Baldi (Casa Ricordi),
Salvatore Sciarrino (Casa Ricordi). Among them, David Lang and Luca Francesconi have been also tutoring young composers within the frame of the Biennale Musica College.
