Carlo Boccadoro was born in Macerata, Italy in 1963. He graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milano, where he majored in piano and percussion instruments. Also at Verdi, he studied composition under Paolo Arata, Bruno Cerchio, Ivan Fedele and Marco Tutino. He also attended Giorgio Gaslini’s course on jazz improvisation technique.

His music has been featured at major musical institutions and venues in Italy and abroad, including: La Scala, the Venice Biennale, Bang On A Can Marathon (New York), Monday Evening Concerts (Los Angeles), Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Lucerne Festival, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the National Concert Hall (Dublin), the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Glasgow), Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Florence), the RAI National Symphony Orchestra (Torino), Pomeriggi Musicali (Milano),  Verona Arena, MITO International Music Festival (Milano and Torino), Parma’s Teatro Regio,  Teatro Massimo (Palermo).

Carlo Boccadoro’s extensive catalogue of compositions includes chamber operas, pieces for orchestras and ensembles, and chamber compositions. He has also written a great deal of music for theater, where he has worked with Luca Ronconi, Valter Malosti, Renato Sarti, Giorgio Gallione, and Serena Sinigaglia.

Riccardo Chailly conducted the world premieres of Boccadoro’s Ritratto di Musico (“Portrait of a Musician”), featuring the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig (2011), and Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra, featuring Beatrice Rana and the La Scala Philharmonic in Milano (2017).

Boccadoro’s most recent orchestral works include Variazioni per orchestra (2010), commissioned by the La Scala Philharmonic and conducted by Omer Meir Welber; Concerto per violoncello e orchestra (2014), dedicated to Enrico Dindo and Gianandrea Noseda, which made its world premiere at Torino’s Teatro Regio; Un guanciale di nuvole azzurre (“A Pillow of Azure Clouds”) (2017), melologue for vocalist and six instruments; Primo taccuino dell’ombra e della luce (“First Notebook of Shadow and Light”) (2018), commissioned by the New European Ensemble.

Besides working as a composer, Carlo Boccadoro has also conducted some of Italy’s leading orchestras, including the La Scala Orchestra, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, Pomeriggi Musicali, the Verdi Orchestra of Milano, and the Verona Arena Foundation Orchestra.

In 1997, along with Filippo Del Corno and Angelo Miotto, Boccadoro co-founded 'Sentieri Selvaggi' (Wild Paths), a cultural project dedicated to the diffusion of contemporary music, which today has its own ensemble and music festival.

He is an Active Academician at Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
