Annette Schlünz (*1964, Dessau), studied composition (Udo Zimmermann, Paul-Heinz Dittrich), piano, music theory, electronic music and conducting at the Dresden Musikhochschule and the Berlin Akademie der Künste.

From 1987, Schlünz has worked at the Dresden Centre for Contemporary Music, where she has organized special transnational projects. She was invited by the Goethe Institute to give composition courses in South America, Vietnam, Copenhagen, Madrid, Riga and Chicago, and she regularly teaches in the summer courses and composition classes of Dresden and the German state of Saxony-Anhalt (from 2003-08, she chaired the friends’ association of the composition class of Halle and Dresden, and since 2008 that of the composition class of Saxony-Anhalt). Since 2005, Schlünz has repeatedly been invited to teach and serve on the jury of the German federal composing competition “Jugend komponiert”. In the summer semester of 2009 she was deputy professor of composition at the Weimar Musikhochschule, and since 2018 has taught composition at the Académie-Conservatoire of Strasbourg.

Annette Schlünz has received numerous prizes and awards, including the Hanns Eisler Prize (1990) and the Women Artists Prize of Heidelberg (1998). She was a fellow at the Villa Massimo in Rome (1999), at Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart (1999-2000), at the Höge in Bremen (2003) and at the artists’ retreat Schreyahn in Wüstrow (2006). She was composer-in-residence at the GRAME electronic studio in Lyon (2005, 2007-08 and 2011), at the Impuls festival in Saxony-Anhalt (2009), at the “musiques démesurées” festival in Clermont-Ferrand (2010) and at the German Studies Centre in Venice (2014).

She has been a member of the Saxon Academy of Arts since 2010 and the Free Academy of Hamburg since 2011.
