Pagliei, Lorenzo

Lorenzo Pagliei (Terracina, December 1, 1972) is a composer, electro-acoustic musician, pianist and conductor.
He studied under Azio Corghi, Ivan Vandor, Giorgio Nottoli and Salvatore Sciarrino.

After graduating with 1st class honours in the Advanced Course in Composition at the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia in Rome (chief examiner: Luciano Berio), he moved to Paris after being selected by the Comité de Lecture of Ircam for a two-year residency. At Ircam he realized his last works as a SACEM scholarship holder. He has received commissions from Ircam, the Pompidou Centre, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestra Regionale Toscana, CNRS – Collège de France, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and the Centre Pousseur in Liège. His works have been performed in various international festivals. He has collaborated with CNRS - Collège de France on a project dedicated to the sonorisation of sub-molecular particle data. In addition to written and acousmatic composition, Pagliei undertakes numerous other forms of collaboration with artists from other fields (dancers, sculptors, poets, directors, video-artists) as composer-performer of electro-acoustic music.

Since 2009 Pagliei has been a research composer at Ircam, where he has invented Geecos, electro-acoustic instruments with which the interpreter can control the synthesis of sound in real time through gestures with the hand on certain surfaces in string instrument wood.

Pagliei teaches electronic music at the Conservatory of Vicenza and since 2015 he has been a lecturer in electronic music in the Cursus in composition and computer music at Ircam.
He is a member of the board of artistic directors of the Centre Pousseur in Liége and of the CD label XXI musicale. His music is published by Casa Ricordi and Suvini Zerboni.
