Pisati, Maurizio

Maurizio Pisati was born in 1959 (June 21), in Milano, where he graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory. He went on to attend the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music and the Città di Castello Academy, where he studied composition under Salvatore Sciarrino, Adriano Guarnieri and Giacomo Manzoni, and guitar. From 1983 to 1989 he toured Europe with Laboratorio Trio. As a composer, Pisati has been featured at a long list of music festivals in Europe, Australia, the United States, Japan, and South America.

His compositions have received awards at competitions worldwide, and have been broadcast on radio shows throughout Europe. They also appear on record labels including Ricordi-Fonit Cetra, Edipan and LArecords, the latter of which was founded by Pisati himself in 1997. 

Besides composing, Pisati is also very much involved in teaching. In the years 1994-1996 he held post-graduate courses at Corsi di Perfezionamento in Bobbio; in 2004 he presided over summer courses at Novantiqua in Frascati; and since 2009 Pisati has held summer courses at Claxica-Castel d’Aiano. Pisati has also been a guest lecturer for conferences and seminars at Tokyo’s Toho Gakuen School of Music, Tokyo College of Music, the Irino Foundation in Tokyo, the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik, Milano’s Politecnico delle Arti, and at the Universities of Vaxjö, Brisbane and Melbourne. He is currently a professor of Analysis and Composition for Applied Music and Composition Elements for Music Studies at the G. B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna. 
Pisati’s extensive catalogue of compositions is published by Ricordi, and includes works for musical theater, ensembles (with and without electronics) and chamber pieces.
