Emanuele Casale started to compose at the age of thirteen. He studied doublebass with Sebastiano Nicotra, composition with Eliodoro Sollima and Electronic Music with Alessandro Cipriani. He completed his musical studies at the Istituto Musicale V. Bellini in Catania (Italy) obtaining a scholarship for the best degree. He followed specialisation courses with Aldo Clementi, Salvatore Sciarrino (Composition), Giorgio Nottoli, and Barry Truax (Electronic Music).
Emanuele Casale has won the following Composition Prizes:
- Prize of the International Irino Prize, Tokyo;
Prize of the Concours International de Musique Electroacoustique, Bourges(France);
Prize of the Comité de Lecture, IRCAM / Ensemble Intercontemporain, Paris;
Prize of the GRAME International Competition, Lyon;
category and 1st
category to the IREM - International Music Council, UNESCO.
Because of this prestigious recognition, Casale was rewarded the Picasso/Mirò medal of UNESCO from the Minister of the Culture of the Italian Republic.
At the Frankfurt Opera House an international Jury, presided by Wolfgang Rihm and George Benjamin, conferred the 1st
Prize to represent his country upon him, in a selection of just four European composers (Frankfurt Opera House Competition). Casale has won residence/commission Prizes from the CEMAT in Rome and from the Academy of the Arts in Berlin, obtaining a unanimous vote from Jury. He was the only living composer ever chosen by the Italian foundation La Fenice (Venice) to be commissioned to compose a piece for symphony orchestra to inaugurate the reconstructed theatre.
Emanuele Casale has received commissions from important institutions and musical ensembles, such as Frankfurt Opera House, Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Istitute International de Musique electroacoustique de Bourges and the Akademie der Künste, the Biennale di Venezia, the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain.
Well-known performers, chamber and symphonic Ensembles, have played his music.
