Silvia Colasanti was born on March 8, 1975. Her works are played in the most important concert halls around the world. Collaboration with the great music interpreters of our time – such as Vladimir Jurowski, Yuri Bashmet, Salvatore Accardo, David Geringas, Nathalie Dessay, Massimo Quarta, Enrico Bronzi – has been of great importance in the development of her poetic, between “earthly” passion for sound, lyricism and a wide variety of registers.
Her works written for the theatre include Orfeo. Flebile queritur lyra, staged by Maddalena Crippa, L’angelo del Liponard. Un delirio amoroso, staged by Sandro Lombardi, and Faust. Tragedia soggettiva in musica on a text by F. Pessoa, commissioned and staged by the Accademia Chigiana, starring Ferdinando Bruni and directed by Francesco Frongia, La Metamorfosi, based on Franz Kafka’s novel and directed by Pier Luigi Pier’Alli, commissioned by the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
In 2016, she made her debut at the ‘Festival dei 2Mondi di Spoleto’ with Tre Risvegli, on texts by Patrizia Cavalli and directed by Mario Martone, with Alba Rohrwacher.
During the 2017 Remembrance Day was performed Le imperdonabili, a work inspired by the story of Etty Hillesum, using texts by Guido Barbieri and directed by Alessio Pizzech.
The ‘Festival dei 2Mondi di Spoleto’ engaged her to write Requiem. Stringeranno nei pugni una cometa oratorio for soloists, choir and orchestra. The Requiem was performed again for LaVerdi in Milan and Festival TransArt in Bolzano.
In October 2017 a new work for cello and strings was written for David Geringas and realized at Teatro Comunale in Bologna.
In 2018 opened the ‘Festival dei 2Mondi di Spoleto’ with Minotauro opera, the first of a trilogy, based on Dürrenmatt’s novel arranged by Réné De Ceccatty and Giorgio Ferrara, who was also the director.
In 2019 and 2020 at the ‘Festival dei 2Mondi di Spoleto’ again, Proserpine opera, based on Mary Shelley drama, and Arianna, Fedra, Didone were performed.
In the next future, Oltre l’azzurro musical drama, on a text by Maria Grazia Calandrone, commissioned by Opera del Duomo for the celebration of the 600th anniversary of Brunelleschi's Dome, and the residence 2020/23 at LaVerdi in Milan.
In 2013 she was appointed “Cavaliere della Repubblica” by the Italian President, Giorgio Napolitano and in 2017 “Ufficiale della Repubblica” by the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella. In 2021 she has been awarded the Franco Buitoni Award 2021, assigned by the BBTrust.
Dynamic published her first monographic CD entitled In-Canto in 2011, followed by the Requiem and in 2020 a new CD of string quartets was released, interpreted by the Quartetto Nous for the Brilliant Classic.
She is grateful to her teacher Maestro Luciano Pelosi, at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, and to Fabio Vacchi, Wolfgang Rihm, Pascal Dusapin and Azio Corghi.
