Olivero, Betty

Betty Olivero was born in Tel Aviv (May 16, 1954), where she lives today. She studied at the Rubin Academy of Music before going on to do advanced studies at Yale University under Jacob Druckman.

In 1982 she had the opportunity to meet Luciano Berio at Tanglewood with whom she continued her studies in Italy. She settled in Florence for several years. Her music is performed by the world’s most important orchestras and ensembles. She has won prestigious prizes both in Israel and the United States, including the Koussevitzky Award (2000). From 2004 to 2008 she served as composer in residence with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
