Born in Casoli (Chieti) in Abruzzo in 1958, Marco Di Bari studied piano under Marco Fumo and Bruno Canino, and composition under Luca Lombardi. He took a diploma in electronic music composition at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan. A fundamental part of his formation took the form of the ten or so years he served as assistant to Armando Gentilucci.
He also undertook courses in composition and orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna.

He holds the professorship in composition at the International Piano Academy “Incontri con il Maestro” in Imola and teaches “The Elements of Composition” at the Cantelli Conservatory in Novara.
His work reveals a keen interest in the challenges of advanced science, in particular in the new morphological philosophy deriving from the dimensions of fractures.

Di Bari is considered one of the most important composers of his generation. He has also worked on a number of multimedia projects, collaborating as a composer with a range of eminent architects and artists. His music is regularly performed by renown interpreters in important music festivals and concert series in Italy, the USA, Germany, France, Austria, Holland, England, Japan, Argentina, Mexico and China: the Venice Biennale, the concert season at the Teatro alla Scala, the Edinburgh Festival, Settembre Musica in Turin, RAI’s Symphonic Music Concert Series in Turin, the Avignon Festival, the Stagione ordinaria at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Bologna Festival, the Berlin Festival, the Warsaw Festival, the Zagreb Biennale, the Saärbrucken Festival, the Pontino Festival and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.

Invited by Luciano Berio to represent Italy in the 1991 Avignon Festival, he wrote and realised the opera L’Histoire de Saint-Julien l’Hospitalier on a short story by Gustave Flaubert.
For this opera he won the SIAE prize (1991). He regularly conducts courses in composition and music teaching at prestigious music institutions such as the Chopin Academy in Warsaw, the Edinburgh University Music Faculty, the Cremona Music Academy, the Milan Polytechnic Institute Architecture Faculty, Genoa University, the Istituto Nazionale Tostiano and the Ecole Mozart in Brussels.

From 1983 to 2001 all his works were published by RICORDI editore, which has realised 3 monographic CDs featuring his music. Since 2001 his compositions have been edited by Rai-Trade.
Ricordi, Rai-Trade and Stradivarius have produced 5 monographic CDs of his work.
