Maria Linnemann was born in 1947 in Amsterdam, bur grew up in England.
She studied Conducting, Piano and violin at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where she won several prizes and was chosen for masterclasses with Nadia Boulanger and Sir Charles Mackerras.
In 1971 she moved to Germany, and taught at the Musikschule Gütersloh for 20 years.
In 1973 she discovered the Classical Guitar, and composed the first pieces for that instrument in 1976. These pieces were published in London in 1979.
During the following years, further compositions for the guitar and also guitar recordings followed.
In 1983 the pedagogic association with Professor Heinz Teuchert began, and publications with G.Ricordi Verlag followed.
Maria Linnemann travelled widely throughout the world, including North-and South America, Scandinavia, Iceland, the Near East and Asia. Many compositions were written during these journeys, among them solopieces, duets, trios and chamber music for the guitar and other instruments.
During this time she gave many concerts and workshops, and was a guest teacher at festivals in Germany and abroad.
In 2000 Maria Linnemann moved to central China, where she worked as Professor of English at a university in Henan Province for five years. During this time she wrote a number of musical sketches for guitar solo and duet, and for recorder with guitar accompaniment.
Since 2007 she has lived in the German republic once more, where she continues working as a composer and teacher, and attending festivals and workshops.
Her compositions have for many years been played throughout the world.
