Shiori Usui was born in Japan in 1981. She is a BBC Proms commissioned composer and improviser based in Edinburgh, UK. She was composer-in-residence with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and has received commissions from the BBC Proms, Philharmonie Essen and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Shiori Usui’s music often uses motion capturing sensors and is based on information captured by biophysical technology. Many of her compositions are inspired by the sounds of the human body.
